Project Brief

The client was in the process of upgrading the bathroom in his Liberty Village rental property and hired me to do the painting and to install a tile backsplash in the kitchen.

The condominium is a small west-facing studio, with average to low levels of natural light and the existing colour scheme was making the space feel even smaller and darker.

Project Commentary

With the client's desire for a cool, modern grey in mind, the walls were painted with Benjamin Moore, Moonshine (2140-60).

This off-white performs well in low light conditions and has just enough blue undertone to give off a reliable grey tint that is sophisticated and modern.

Pairing it with Benjamin Moore, Chantilly Lace (OC-65), a bright neutral white, on the trim and doors, gives the space a fresh crisp look.

To compensate for the low levels of light in the room, the overhead lighting was amped up by replacing the dated fixture with seven LED spots on two tracks.

The client very specifically wanted to utilize glass tiles on the backsplash and a cool grey glass subway set in a stacked layout gives off a modern urban vibe.

The overall scheme is intentionally monochromatic, but to keep it from looking too flat, a reflective translucent grout made from crushed glass infuses a little sparkle and gives the backsplash a more continuous, seamless look.
