Tenant
April 2021
I was hired by the tenant of this rental property, with the permission of the landlord, to make some aesthetic and functional improvements to this kitchen. As it was the tenant who was paying for the work, it was important to maximize the overall impact of a limited budget.
In addition to a new laminate countertop and matte black kitchen faucet, matte black pulls were added to the existing cabinets to update their look. Inexpensive white subway tiles with high contrasting grout adds visual interest to the backsplash and sophistication to the space.
To increase the room’s functionality and address the clients' need for more prep space, an additional 6' countertop was added with storage below. Mounting shallow depth (upper) cabinets to the floor and away from the wall allowed for sufficient air circulation between the cabinets and the radiator.
A side panel running the full depth creates the illusion that the cabinets are also full depth. The cabinet obstructed access to the only outlet on that side of the room, so the countertop was fitted with a pop-up outlet.
The faded and unsightly vinyl floor tiles were replaced with an inexpensive vinyl plank laid in a herringbone pattern to elevate the look.
A Sputnik light fixture adds some visual interest to the space and reflects this young family’s personality.
